Privacy policy

CityQuest is run by Forge Class Software Ltd (company number 16547331, registered in England and Wales), trading as Forge Class Software. We are the data controller for the personal data described here. Contact us at enquiries@forgeclass.co.uk.

What we collect and why

• Your location when you plan a route. We send it to our server and to Google Maps to find places and walking routes near you. We don't store it.
• Account details (name, email address, and a profile picture if you sign in with Google or Microsoft), so you can sign in and save routes.
• Routes you save and reviews you write. Private routes are visible only to you. Public routes show your display name; their start is moved to the first stop so they don't reveal where you set off from.
• Live location in groups, only if you switch on “Share my location”. Other members of that group can see it. It is deleted automatically after 24 hours, and straight away when you turn sharing off. Groups are deleted after 7 days.
• Technical data such as your IP address, used briefly in memory to stop abuse (rate limiting). It isn't stored.

We don't use advertising trackers or sell your data. We use the “AI guide” and stop descriptions only with place details (names, ratings, types) and any mood you type. We don't send your name or email.

Lawful basis

We use your data to provide the service you ask for (contract), to keep it secure (legitimate interests), and for live location sharing only with your consent, which you can withdraw at any time by switching sharing off.

Who processes it for us

• Google: Firebase (sign-in and database, stored in Europe) and Google Maps Platform (maps, places, routes).
• OpenAI: writes short stop descriptions and AI guide suggestions from place details.
• Render: hosts the CityQuest website and server.

Some of these providers process data outside the UK, including in the US, under safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum or the UK–US data bridge.

How long we keep it

Account details, saved routes and reviews are kept until you delete them or your account. Live locations are kept for at most 24 hours and groups for 7 days.

Your rights

You can see, correct or delete your data. Delete your account at any time from Account & privacy, which removes your profile, saved routes and reviews. If you can't sign in, email us from the address on your account. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).

Age

CityQuest is for adults aged 18 and over. Some routes include pubs, bars and nightclubs.

Changes

If we change this policy we'll update the date above, and tell you in the app if the change is significant.
